N. American Mayfly Species Query - Tutorial

Search Mode:

If a search mode of And is specified, all Data Fields (for which a Search For value is specified) must be contained within a given species record in order for the record to be selected.

If a search mode of Or is specified, at least one Data Fields (for which a Search For value is specified) must be contained within a given species record in order for that species record to be selected.

Of course, if a Search For value is only provided for a single Data Field, specifying a search mode of either (And or Or) will produce the same result.

Search For:

Either a drop-down select box, or an entry box, is provided for specifying a search value. Use of the drop down select box is probably self-evident. However, any string of characters can be entered in the entry box. For example, if one desires to select all species records in the database, the best way to do that is entering (the string of characters) idae in the entry box for Family, as all mayfly family names have that as their ending string of characters.

Display (checkbox):

A display checkbox is provided in order to specify that the value of a data field should be displayed for all species records selected by the query result, other than for Family and for Scientific Name, which display by default. Other data fields do not display by default, even if a search for value has been specified for that data field. This was done as horizontal-space-saving measure.
